 2016 Preview 


       Center Point finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Center Point finished sixth in Class 6A region six with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       No team at Center Point ever lost more games in a season than the nine they lost last year.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Center Point averaged scoring just 6.8 points a game.

       The Eagles would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, Center Point has gone a combined 31-34. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 6A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Center Point has managed to compile a record of 130-141. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 6A and 213rd in the AHSAA.

Bennie Hall is no longer the head football coach at Center Point after leading the team the past three seasons with an 11-20 record including an 0-1 mark in the playoffs.


Shawn Gregory steps up to take over the football program at Center Point High. He has previously served as the head football coach at Jackson-Olin in 2008 where his squad went 3-7 in his only stint as a head football coach. His contract was not renewed in 2009.

Gregory was the head coach at Georgiana for eight games in 2010 where he did not win a game before being relieved of his duties.

He is a graduate of Jackson State where he was a record breaking quarterback. He spent some time as an assistant coach at Tuskegee University and Mississippi Valley State.

He most recently was the head coach at New Hope High in Mississippi in 2013 where his only team went 4-7.



       Coach Gregory's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 3-7 (30.0%).

       The Center Point Eagles will play in Class 6A region six during the 2016 season. The Eagles have one of the toughest schedules in Class 6A. Their opponents had a combined record of 72-45 last season. That ranks 7th in Class 6A and 23rd in the AHSAA.

       Region six will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season.

       The Eagles enter the 2016 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Eagles will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region six.

       The Eagles open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Hueytown on Friday, August 19 at Hueytown High School Stadium. Last year the Hueytown Golden Gophers finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 6A region five.

       Center Point and Hueytown have met a total of 16 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 7-9-0 record against the Golden Gophers. They last met in 1987 with Hueytown winning by a score of 25-16.
